Job Summary

The Senior Health Care Attorney will serve as one of the Firm’s internal subject matter experts by interpreting and applying a wide array of healthcare laws and regulations, with a particular focus on government health plan compliance and fraud & abuse laws.

This is a telework position. Ideally, the individual selected for this position will be located in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry or Will counties of Illinois for the duration of employment, but strong candidates in other locations will also be considered.

Major Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including commercial contracts, payer and provider agreements, and transaction documents
  • Counsel clients regarding legal risks presented by proposed or actual arrangements, with focus on achieving business goals and realistic risk mitigation strategies
  • Perform due diligence in connection with health care transactions; review and/or prepare schedules for transaction documents
  • Prepare legal memoranda, legal documents, and other communications summarizing transactional or legal advice

  • Superior writing and research skills, reflecting strong analytic abilities and excellent judgment
  • Ability to synthesize complex facts and legal analyses into actionable, practical guidance for clients
  • Excellent oral advocacy skills
  • Scrupulous attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion, and to maintain client confidences at all times
  • Ability to accurately understand scope of assigned projects, Firm goals and requirements, and budgets
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with all commonly used Office 365 applications

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Excellent academic credentials and professional references
  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law and a member in good standing of the Illinois bar
  • At least eight years of combined health law experience in a large law firm, government, and/or in-house positions
  • Must display the ability to work independently in a highly professional telework environment
  • Compliance with all Firm information security and confidentiality requirements

Physical/Mental Demands

Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, bending to files and supplies; mobility to attend meetings and other work-related events; ability to sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone.

Requires sitting, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress.

Travel

The Senior Health Care Attorney position requires periodic domestic travel (frequency to be mutually agreed upon, but unlikely to exceed 25% of a full time schedule).

Hours

Initially ad hoc, as needed for client workflow. Hours are initially anticipated to be between 10 to 20 hours per week, with potential for transition to a salaried full time position.

Commensurate with experience
