Kerri McBride is Counsel at McClain & Canoy, LLC. Ms. McBride is a seasoned attorney with more than 20 years of experience, including more than 15 years as in-house counsel for government and private entities. Ms. McBride’s practice emphasizes contract drafting, review, and negotiation as well as advising clients on their regulatory obligations, including HIPAA and HITECH obligations and state insurance requirements. Ms. McBride enjoys the challenge involved in handling a variety of different matters for her clients. Ms. McBride is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US).
Before joining McClain and Canoy, Ms. McBride was general counsel for the Illinois Health Information Exchange Authority, the state agency tasked with implementing electronic exchange of records between medical providers and payors. She handled all legal needs of the agency, from data privacy and protection to ethics and compliance to contract development and negotiation. She also worked closely with stakeholders to draft legislation facilitating health information exchange. Before working at the State, she was Senior Counsel for a large third party claims administrator, where she provided advice on data privacy and security and worked closely with the IT department to implement necessary protections. She also handled a wide variety of contracts, including IT and client service agreements.
When she’s not protecting health information or securing data privacy, Ms. McBride is an avid reader, primarily mystery and suspense. She also enjoys traveling with her family.
